Just a few pics of Mother Nature's work in Summer of '17.
Here in Missouri, we get a crazy mix of all kinds of weather. This Summer, my area has been hit 4x with some pretty substantial wind damage. I am fortunate that I had my trees trimmed this Spring; however, that did not save me the headache of fallen limbs. I have had 4 break off in these storms and hit our home. Two of the limbs came down on our roof just this past Saturday. Our home is fine, and I feel pretty fortunate, but there was also damage to some of my plants that is upsetting.
If you remember, a couple weeks ago, I had an early harvest of my corn crop. Out of corn harvests, we get material for our Corn Dolls, Lammas Herbal Blend, and also corn for my family or for the chickens. Well, I am very lucky for the early harvest because the other half of my corn was broken off at the ground in the storms. I salvaged what I could but it wasn't ready just yet. It had another couple of weeks.
In addition to the corn, my sunflowers were also badly damaged. They were all just getting ready to bloom too:(. The sunflowers are also used in my products. However, I am thankful that I planted extra this year in anticipation for launching additional products, so the damage shouldn't set us back for anything we already have in the shop.
It's a great reminder that Mother Nature has a mind and an agenda of her own. I am blessed by the Gods for the early harvest of my crops, even if it was only half. Maybe Brigid was on the look out for me this Summer, as I was for her last Winter. This is the sort of thing that keeps us on our toes and flexible to just go with the flow of life.
